How it Works
How Breez works
Breez controls the air conditioners in your home from your phone, over your own Wi-Fi. No accounts to make, no ads, and no tracking.

The short version
- Breez talks to your air conditioners directly over your home Wi-Fi. There is no Breez account and no Breez cloud in between.
- Breez works with air conditioners from many makers. See Supported Brands.
- You need an iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later, a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 13.3 or later, or an Android phone or tablet with Android 9 or later.
- Setting up takes a few minutes: choose the brand, let Breez find the air conditioners, and name your rooms.
- Breez is free for one home with two air conditioners. For more, or to share a home with your household, you buy Breez Pro in the app. See free and paid plans.
- Daikin air conditioners need your device to go online once when you first set one up, and about every two months after that. See what you need.
- You can share a home with your household using a short code (Breez Pro).
- Away from home, Breez works through your own VPN.

What Breez is
Breez is an app that works as a remote for the air conditioners in your home. It finds them on your Wi-Fi and talks to them directly, the way their own remote talks to them across the room.
You put each air conditioner in a home and a room. Then you can turn one, several or all of them on or off, and change the temperature, mode and fan from one place.
Breez has no accounts to make, no ads and no tracking. Your homes, rooms and settings stay on your device.
Supported Brands
Breez works with air conditioners from these makers:
- ActronAir
- AUX
- Daikin
- Electrolux
- Fujitsu
- Gree
- Haier
- Hisense
- Hitachi
- LG
- Midea
- Mitsubishi Electric
- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries
- Panasonic
- Samsung
- Toshiba
It also works with the zone controllers and gateways that many ducted and larger systems use:
- Advantage Air
- AirTouch
- Airzone
- CoolAutomation
- Intesis
- iZone
- ZhongHong
Some air conditioners need the maker’s Wi-Fi adapter. When you add one, Breez asks which adapter you have and shows where to find its name.
Some air conditioners have built-in Wi-Fi that only works with the maker’s own app. Breez cannot control those over your home Wi-Fi, and it says so when it finds one.
Not sure about yours? Write to us with the make and model, and we will tell you. To look around the app first, open Settings, then Explore a demo home. Nothing in it is real, and it does not show whether your air conditioner works.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later, a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 13.3 or later, or an Android phone or tablet with Android 9 or later.
- Air conditioners on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. Some guest networks stop phones from seeing other devices, so use your main network.
- For most Daikin air conditioners, an internet connection: once when you first set one up, and about every two months after that. Breez checks that it is the real app on a genuine device, and does it quietly whenever your device is online. If your device stays offline for more than two months, Breez stops controlling those air conditioners until it is online again. Nothing is lost. On Android this needs Google Play services.
Setting up
- Choose your brand. Pick the makers of your air conditioners. If you are not sure, Breez can search for all of them.
- Check the adapter. If your air conditioner needs a Wi-Fi adapter, Breez asks which one you have and shows where its name is printed. For Daikin, it is on the adapter, behind the front panel.
- Let Breez find it. Most air conditioners are already on your Wi-Fi through the maker’s app. Choose “It’s already on my Wi-Fi”, and Breez looks for them. You do not have to reset anything. Breez lists only air conditioners it has checked, each with a Verified mark.
- Enter the setup code or PIN, if asked. Some adapters have a setup code or PIN on a small sticker. Type it in, or for some, choose “Read it from a photo” (Beta). The photo is read on your phone and deleted straight away.
- Name your rooms. Give each air conditioner a room, such as Living room or Bedroom 2. That’s it.
If Breez cannot find an air conditioner, check that it has power and that your phone is on the same Wi-Fi. On an iPhone, also check that Breez is allowed to use the local network (Settings, then Breez, then Local Network).
Everyday use
Every room, one place
Your home shows each air conditioner with its room and whether it is on. Turn one on, or a whole group, or everything at once.
Each unit, in full
Open one to set the temperature on a dial, and choose the mode (Auto, Cool, Heat, Dry or Fan), the fan speed and the swing. Where your air conditioner has them, you also get special modes such as Energy saving or Powerful, the room and outdoor temperature, and how much energy it uses.
Only what it can do
Breez shows the controls each air conditioner has, and nothing it does not. Temperatures follow your phone’s setting, °C or °F.
A change can take a few seconds to reach some air conditioners. Breez waits for the air conditioner to confirm it before it shows the change as done.
Sharing with family and guests
Your household
Open a home and choose Share home (this needs Breez Pro). Breez makes a short code, or a QR code to scan, that works for one hour, 24 hours or seven days. You can also make it work only once. The other person gets the same full control you have. Once they have opened it they keep their copy, and you cannot take it back, so share only with people you trust. If nobody has used the code yet, Stop sharing cancels it. What you share is locked on your device before it leaves it, and we cannot open it.
Your other devices
On an iPhone or iPad, Breez keeps your homes in your own iCloud, so your other Apple devices have them. On Android, you can back them up to your own Google Drive. To move between an iPhone and an Android phone, share the home with a code.
Guests and rentals
For a holiday let or rental, Breez Host adds the Guest Pass: a printed card that gives each guest limited control for their stay. Breez Host is a plan you buy in the app, monthly, annually or as a one-time purchase. Guests never pay. See Rental Hosts.
When you are away from home
Breez talks to your air conditioners over your home Wi-Fi, and there is no Breez cloud to pass commands on. So, out of the house, Breez cannot reach them by itself.
To control them while you are out, use your own VPN back into your home network. For example:
- Tailscale on an always-on device at home, such as an Apple TV or a computer;
- the VPN built into many home routers.
Breez needs no setup for this. In the app, open Settings and, under Away from home, choose Control from anywhere, for a short guide and a Test now button that checks which air conditioners you can reach.
Away from home, your device still needs to go online about every two months for Daikin air conditioners, which it does by itself whenever it has a connection.
| Over your VPN | Works? |
|---|---|
| Turning air conditioners on and off, and changing settings | Yes |
| Seeing their current state | Yes |
| Finding an air conditioner after its address on your network changes | Usually: Breez searches your home network for it |
| Adding a new air conditioner | No: connect to your home Wi-Fi first |
| Connecting an air conditioner to Wi-Fi for the first time | No: you need to be next to it |
Free and paid plans
Breez is free to download and free to use for one home with up to two air conditioners, with full control. You can also join any number of homes as a guest with a Guest Pass, for the length of the stay. For more, you buy a plan in the app:
- Breez Free. One home and two air conditioners, and any number as a guest.
- Breez Pro. More homes and air conditioners, and sharing a home with your household.
- Breez Host. Everything in Pro, plus Guest Pass cards for rental guests. See Rental Hosts.
Breez Pro and Breez Host are plans you buy in the app, as a monthly or annual subscription or as a one-time purchase. Apple (on the App Store) or Google (on Google Play) takes the payment and bills you, and the store shows the price in your own currency, so there is no price on this page. You manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. If one ends, nothing is deleted: after a grace period, Breez pauses control of what is above the free limits until you subscribe again. The terms have the details.
Privacy
Breez has no accounts, no ads and no usage analytics, and it never follows you across other apps or websites. Your homes stay on your device, and in your own iCloud or Google Drive if you choose. Our servers, and the services we use, are reached only for a few things:
- a shared home, which is locked so we cannot open it;
- signing in to some makers’ clouds;
- the check for Daikin adapters, once and then every two months or so;
- a paid plan: Apple or Google takes the payment, and a service called RevenueCat tells the app what you have bought.
The privacy policy sets out each of them in plain words.
Questions
Do I need an account?
No. Breez has no accounts. Your homes live on your device.
Does Breez need the internet?
Not to control your air conditioners at home: that happens over your Wi-Fi. But for most Daikin air conditioners, your device must be online once when you first set one up, and about every two months after that. If it is offline for longer than that, Breez stops controlling them until it is online again.
Can I still use the remote?
Yes. You can keep using the remote. Breez does not reset your air conditioner or change how it is set up.
Does Breez have schedules or timers?
No. A phone cannot be relied on to run them in the background.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes, on iPadOS 16.4 or later.
What does Breez cost?
It costs nothing to download, and nothing to use for one home with two air conditioners. Breez Pro and Breez Host are plans you buy in the app, monthly, annually or as a one-time purchase, billed by Apple or Google. The store shows the price in your own currency, so this page shows none.
My brand is not listed. What can I do?
Choose it in the app and tap Notify me, or write to us with the make and model.
How do I move my homes to a new phone?
On Apple devices, iCloud brings them across. On Android, restore from your Google Drive backup. Between the two, share each home with a code.
